Casino Cards Memory

What this game is like
Human memory improves sharply when the thing you are looking at has a name. That is the quiet advantage of a card-faced version: turn over the nine of spades and your brain files the words nine of spades immediately, whereas a cartoon character you cannot name has to be stored as a picture, and pictures fade faster.
Cards bring a second advantage, which is that they already contain a system. Four suits, an ordered set of ranks. Instead of memorising individual positions, you can group them — the top row is all red, the left column held two face cards — which reduces how much you are holding in your head without demanding any extra effort.
The casino styling is decoration only; there is no betting and no currency anywhere in the game. We put it on the thinking shelf at My Urban Eatery for adults who want a memory board that does not look like a toy, and who prefer crisp, legible artwork to bright colour.
